New Zealand and Australia
Right now we are sitting at Bengal Resaurant in Fremantle near Perth, at the Old Fire Station Backpacker's. They offer free internet, free laundry, free breakfast and cheap bacpacker meals. But they didn'have room for us, we had to stay at another place.
We had only one week in New Zealand, and instead of travelling around seeing little of everything, we chose to stay in on place. That place was Rotorua, which was suggested to us by Pam, who we met in Fiji. New Zealand is a lot like Norway, but Rotorua sure is not. It is in the middle of a thermic area with geysirs, sulphuric hot springs, boiling mud and active vulcanøs, and the maori culture is very present. Although they had the coldest November in a 100 years, we had a splendid time. Pam came to see us, and spent two days with us, we hired a car and travelled around. Rotorua is highly recommende!

Then came Sydney. We were picked up at the airport by the Watkins, a couple my parents met 10 - 15 years ago in Norway. We spent some relaxing days at their home in Bowral, taking short trips to the surrounding area and to Sydney. New South Wales was also cold, but nice. I have heard a lot about australian hospitality, and now I can tell you, everything is true!

From Sydney, we travelled by the fameous Ghan to Alice Springs, the journey was great!. In Alice visited the train museum and the desert park, and we went to Uluru, but we did NOT climb it! We even managed to see water in Todd river! That is not very common, since the river is dry most of the time. But this year they have had 6 times as much rain as normal.

We chose to fly from Alice to Perth. We are fond of trains, but would not like to overdo it. Two nights on the Ghan was enough for a while, and next week we are going to Adelaide on the Indian Pacific.

Christmas and New Year will be spent in an old Stable! in Geelong, close to Melbourne. And in January, we are going up the east coast to Brisbane and Cairns.
